About Owen

Owen graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in 2010 with an honours Degree in Physiotherapy. Feeling somewhat disappointed with the "hands-off" treatment approach advocated in many of the physiotherapy clinics and hospitals in Ireland at the time, he was keen to bring a practical know-how and hands-on approach back to the physiotherapy realm.   With this in mind he began his practice of physiotherapy in his hometown of Cork City in 2010. His practice is now located at Blackrock Medical Centre, a GP practice in Cork's leafy suburbs, where Owen manages elite level and recreational athletes of all levels as well musicians, dancers and other non-athlete patient groups.

Education is huge on Owen's priority list. His philosophy is that optimum health begins with the individual knowing exactly what's going on with their own body.  Therefore Owen ensures that the path to recovery is one of understanding, certainty and control.  He appreciates the importance of a harmonious marriage between good hands-on physiotherapy care and appropriately timed, specific exercise prescription.

Continually furthering his education Owen has also obtained Certification in Spinal Manual Therapy, Dry-Needling, Strength and Conditioning and regularly attends conferences and courses to keep abreast of the most recent developments in Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine.  Owen has a special clinical interest in running overuse injuries and is founder director of Running Technique Workshop which is a facility established to educate groups and individuals on the intricacies of running technique, correct training loads and common pitfalls.  Owen subscribes to a very healthy lifestyle himself and, having competed for Ireland at elite-level triathlon in his twenties, still competes and trains for health and enjoyment.
